Lecture Details

We are all here to develop greater awareness about ourselves and the world.

Eric will introduce a spiritual approach to the Sun and Moon, seeing them in terms of awakening from unconsciousness. He will illustrate that there is a personal level in understanding them, but also a transpersonal one. Then, we’ll explore how the major planets function differently depending on the consciousness we bring to them. Every planet can be in service to the ego or the soul. Are we going to use astrology to cooperate with nature, or only to see to our self-interests?

Eric Meyers

Eric Meyers has an M.A. in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology (Naropa University in Boulder, CO), and is a graduate of the Steven Forrest Apprenticeship program. With a focus on spiritual awakening, he is forging a career as a unique voice for evolutionary growth. Eric released his latest book, The Astrology of Awakening, in 2012. Other works include Elements & Evolution: The Spiritual Landscape of Astrology, Uranus: The Constant of Change, and Between Past & Presence: A Spiritual View of the Moon & Sun. You may wonder about the paintings you have seen displayed at our meetings. Our member, Carolyn Relei, has gifted us with an incredible opportunity to own works of the late astrologer and spiritual artist, Arne Trettevik. Arne spent much time at Esalen Institute with other consciousness pioneers and/or astrologers including Stanislaus Grof and Richard Tarnas and was known to carry an ephemeris under his arm. Carolyn has been the keeper of numerous pieces of Arne’s work for many years and felt ready to share them and find good homes for them with people who would appreciate their context and beauty. She has donated them to NCGR-SAA and all proceeds of a nine-month Silent Auction will benefit our education programs.

About Arne Trettevik

Arne Trettevik (1938 -1999) was a world traveler, master story teller and artist.  Born in Seattle, he served in the US Air Force as a radar operator stationed in both Morocco and Germany, and moved to San Francisco and enrolled in City College of San Francisco in 1962.

In addition to his academic major, anthropology, he pursued personal study and practice of Hatha Yoga, as well as Shamanism, and study of Western Astrology.  He also began to teach himself to paint, first with water colors and tempera paint, then acrylic.

In the 1970s, he transferred to Sonoma State College and earned his BA in three disciplines: Anthropology, Psychopharmacology and India Studies.  Arnold continued to study astrology as a tool for self-understanding, for deepening his connection with the cosmos, and for predicting and making sense of the events around him. After graduation from Sonoma State, he taught astrology for a short while at Esalen Institute, where his intense scrutiny of the transiting planets influenced a generation of astrologers, the most well known of whom are Stanislav Grof and Richard Tarnas *(see below).  Sometime during the same decade, he stayed in a small village with a Huichol family (Native Americans of northern Mexico, famous for their peyote quests and rituals). Because of his astrological perspective, the Huichol family called him a star shaman.

During the 1950s – 1970s, he had taken many photographs of many monuments and people in many countries and cultural settings, by the mid-1970s, he stopped using his camera, and used only his paintbrush to capture his perceptions, mostly of what he was seeing on his interior, shamanic journeys of imagination and spirit. In the last few years of his life, while living in the Palm Springs area, he got much of his inspiration from the mystical and magical beauty of the surrounding desert world. He also portrayed his luminous inner world of Buddha meditation figures and beautiful goddesses beckoning toward the Light.

Most of the people who view them remark on how the paintings make them feel – most of the paintings evoke feelings of calmness, spirituality, a sense of wonder and love.

About Chart Interpretation Meetings: Mastery of chart reading skills is where the rubber hits the road, transferring theory to practice in astrology. The Leadership Team feels this type of meeting serves many purposes:

When astrologers want to prove that astrology works to non-astrologers, it is common practice to have them watch personal and global events during the next Mercury Retrograde cycle. We shall look at shadow periods, connections between the three retrograde each year, its effect on individual & business natal charts, and much more. Lecture Details

Highly fitting for this week’s Sun-Venus-Uranus conjunction in Aries, What’s Up, Uranus?, based on material from an upcoming book, is a look at the transit of Uranus through the twelve tropical signs over the last two centuries, focusing on biographical studies of various notable people and their respective Uranus conjunction and opposition transits to the natal Sun and/or Moon. The talk also includes a close study of key people and events during previous transits of Uranus through tropical Aries. If this story was The Wizard of Oz, then you might say Uranus is Dorothy and the tropical zodiac is a sort-of perpetual yellow brick road, replete with an overlapping series of adventures and challenges.

Have you ever wondered how to best deal with certain friendships, romantic relationships, or even business partnerships? During this lively workshop, participants will learn how to examine and exalt human relationships through the use of simple synastry, composite charts, and a little TLC!

In its most basic uses, Astrology can be used to help understand our web of human relationships. In fact, Astrology can provide endless insight into how to best love those around us! Unlike any other study in existence, Astrology can be used to examine the emotional, mental, and practical landscape of any type of merging between two individuals. During this afternoon, we will turn the tables on fate and begin the art of uplifting ourselves through the manifestation of positive vibrational relationships. Participants will learn how to avert possible relationship disaster by checking theoretical composite charts, strengthen areas of weakness through intentional compositing, and to partner up with those people who will advance our life emotional, spiritually, materially, etc.

Students are encouraged to bring charts to be used as examples. All questions will be rendered from the “personal to the public” in order to teach to the entire group!

Andrea Gehrz is a practicing astrologer in Portland, Oregon, having done countless readings for a delightful and varied group of clients in her ten years of experience. Andrea loves doing consultations as well as astrological research, and her current interests are astrological remediation, the astrology of relationships, children’s readings, addiction relief through astrology, and the intricate timing of everyday life in order to optimize the energies of the chart. The Signs: A Deeper Exploration

Six week class: January 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12, 19, 2013

We will take a deep dive into all of the signs of the zodiac to learn the essence, nuances, and message of each.

Each sign has an agenda, a reason for being, and a set of values and needs. When we understand these, we gain insight into the deeper motivations that shape behavior and the strategies used to grow and find happiness.

•  The first four classes will cover the signs of each of the seasons.
  1)      Spring-Aries, Taurus, Gemini
  2)      Summer-Cancer, Leo, Virgo
  3)      Autumn-Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius
  4)      Winter-Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces

•  In the last two classes we will look at the pairs of opposites, and how they need each other to grow and evolve.
  5)      Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio, Gemini-Sagittarius
  6)      Cancer-Capricorn, Leo-Aquarius, Virgo-Pisces

We will use examples from the charts of class members to illustrate the principles being discussed. This class expands on the content of Astrology Basics for Fun! class, but there is no prerequisite -  just your investigative mind.

CLASS PREPARATION

Please bring your astrology chart with you or provide your birth information at or before the first class so a chart can be prepared for you. This is one of the learning instruments for the class. No books are required.

Chet Zdrowski

INSTRUCTOR

Chet Zdrowski began studying astrology in 1977 with the psychological approach of renowned astrologer Richard Idemon and later the transpersonal astrology of Dane Rudhyar and Steve Arroyo. For the past seven years he has studied in Steven Forrest’s Evolutionary Astrology Apprenticeship program, learning a deep fusion of psychological, transpersonal astrology with ancient metaphysics.

Chet combines the depth of his understanding of astrology with a strong desire to help people discover their unique gifts and evolutionary paths.

  • You will receive a full refund, if the class is cancelled by NCGR-Sacramento Area Astrologers or the instructor for any reason.
  • If you change your mind about taking the class up to a week before it begins, a full refund minus $5 to cover PayPal transmission fees and handling will be given up to January 14, 2013.
  • Refunds on class cancellation requests after January 14, 2013 will be as follows:
    • Between January 15  and 21, you will be refunded 83% of your payment minus the $5 transmission and handling fee ($77.17).
    • There will be no refunds on or after January 22, 2013.

Vesta and Chart Interpretation

Vesta: A Goddess Revisited

The asteroid Vesta was recently visited by the NASA spacecraft Dawn, so as we slowly learn more about the physical nature of Vesta, the principle of “As Above, So Below” infers that our understanding of the astrological nature of Vesta will also increase.

After a brief introduction into the discovery of the four Goddess asteroids (Ceres, Vesta, Juno and Pallas Athene) in the early 1800′s and the consequential reintroduction of the feminine into modern astrology, we will concentrate on the brightest of the four, Vesta. We will begin by looking at the original mythological story about Vesta and how that translates into modern astrology, using the seminal work by Demetra George and Douglas Bloch,  Asteroid Goddesses, as a starting point.

Time permitting, we will then take a brief journey around the Zodiac, looking at the possible uses and/or misuses of Vesta’s energy in the signs and houses.

Larry Landis

This talk is potentially Part One of a series, as NASA’s Dawn is currently on its way to visit Ceres.

Larry Landis began studying astrology around 1990 after being intrigued by a Linda Goodman book on relationships. He was self-taught for many years, absorbing any and all astrology books and magazines that came his way. His formal training began in 2001 with Steven Forrest, Tom Lescher, Maurice Fernandez and Daniel Giamario. He is a graduate of the Steven Forrest Apprenticeship program and currently does chart readings and research under the name of WaveRider Astrology.

Chart Interpretation

Following the presentation on Vesta, we’ll be looking at the chart of one of our members.

IMPORTANT! Chart Interpretation Guidelines. Thank you for becoming familiar with the attached Guidelines for Chart Interpretation Meetings. It is extremely important, especially when looking at  personal charts in a group, that we create an atmosphere of safety and non-judgment in helping others learn more about their astrological map. Another key concept is that the owner of the chart is the ultimate authority on what resonates to him or her. These concepts will “go without saying” for many of us, but we’re a group open to the public and individuals vary in their sensitivity to these issues. Thank you for reading the guidelines and following them.

About Chart Interpretation Meetings: Mastery of chart reading skills is where the rubber hits the road, transferring theory to practice in astrology. The Leadership Team feels  this type of meeting serves many purposes:

• Sharpen our skills on what’s important in a chart reading
• Increase our chart synthesis skills
• Increase confidence in our interpretations
• Enjoy the support of others at all ends of the learning spectrum on chart reading in an environment of non-judgment and encouragement
• Get live practice or be the live recipient of pooled astrological knowledge

* In 2013, all meetings will have a featured sign theme. Chart readings will focus on this sign and will encompass as many other aspects of the chart as we have time to interpret.

Here’s how it works: Each chart interpretation month, we’ll read a personal chart.  Personal chart readings will be limited to people on the NCGR-SAA mailing list. We will limit it to one reading a year per person unless there are unused slots. E-mail Joyce if you would like to  have your chart read in the group during any of these meetings in 2013: Jan. 27, May 19, July 28, and Nov. 17.  NOTE: Personal reading slots are already filled all four dates in 2013. But, submit your names to be on the waiting list in case  we do a second personal reading at any of the chart interpretation meetings, or if the first individual scheduled cancels.

Other notes:  We may also substitute a special guest for one or more of these Chart Interpretation meetings, if the opportunity presents itself.

Winter Solstice Luncheon and Celebration Plus!

Now that we’ve been collecting reservations for a while, we know we’ve still got room.

Therefore, you no longer need to make a deposit in advance and can just show up at Cha-Cha’s for the party, if you’re able. We’d love to have you with us  for our Winter Solstice Celebration. Details follow, and you’re welcome to bring a spouse, partner or friend.

This year, instead of a regular December meeting and potluck, we’re holding a Winter Solstice luncheon extravaganza at Cha-Cha’s Cucina Mexicana restaurant in Rocklin—primarily a social event and a change of pace. We have a fun afternoon in store at this cantina with suns and moons for décor, as though it was designed just for us! We hope as many of you as possible can join us. Included in the festivities will be:

• A special Winter Solstice meditation to commemorate what might be the biggest turning-point in our lifetimes as the Mayan Calendar ends (or turns over like an odometer to zero, according to astrologer Bruce Scofield). As we learned from guest speaker Linea Van Horn a year ago, it’s also a time when a corner of our tropical zodiac will pass through the zone that aligns with the center of our galaxy.
• Humorous holiday surprises
• A surprise gift

You are welcome to bring spouses, partners or friends, but the seating capacity in the separate room we will be using is limited to 30 people. To assure commitments and keep our RSVPs accurate, we are asking you to sign up as early as possible with a $10 deposit. We will return $10 to you in cash the day of the event, which you can use to pay your tab. (Separate checks have been negotiated.) Dinners range from $10-17 plus drinks. The guacamole is on NCGR-SAA! For approximately the same cost as one of our special guest presentations, we’ll have a fantastic, star friendly kick-off to the holiday season and a sacred welcome to this unique Winter Solstice and the end of the Mayan Calendar.

Entrees do not include drinks and include these choices:

• Chili Relleno – $11.95 Fresh poblano pepper, egg-white battered, fried and stuffed with fresh Oaxacan cheese and smothered with ranchero sauce. Served with Spanish rice and refried beans
• Chicken Tostada – $10.75 A crisp flour tortilla layered with refried beans, Oaxacan cheese, lettuce, crema fresca, sliced avocado and pico de gallo
