From the moment that we take our first breath we have joined in a dance with the great celestial clock that is our solar system. Just as we can see the hands move on a clock, we can see (either with our eyes or a telescope) the planets transiting around us. But what about the gears inside that we can’t see, the movement behind the movement. That is what progressions are all about.
Join us this afternoon as Larry Landis explains and differentiates the three most common types of progressions used in astrology today; the secondary, tertiary and minor progressions.
Larry Landis has been studying astrology since the early 1990’s, when he happened upon Linda Goodman’s “Love Signs”. After years of self-study, he began his formal study under Tom Lescher (Kaypacha) and then completed Level Two of Steven Forrest’s Astrological Apprenticeship Program. Larry is an active member and treasurer of NCGR-Sacramento Area.

Magic: Western Astrology’s Lost Source for Remediation
Sunday, September 29, 2019 2 – 6 pm
Sylvan Community Center
7521 Community Drive, Citrus Heights
Astrology, Alchemy and Magic were once part of an integrated tradition. We can see the practical aspects of magic in Culpeper’s herbal remedies. But Astrology also has a lost tradition of planetary magic that is still widely practiced today, though little known in the astrology community! We’ll go over some simple techniques such as using planetary day and hours along with colors and herbs of the planets as well as more advanced techniques like using magic squares and sigils to make planetary talismans. In the Midst of Every Difficulty Lies Opportunity: Making the Most of the Hard Aspects in Your Horoscope
When two parts of the chart are in aspect to each another, a dialogue is formed. The nature of that interaction – the flow of energy – is revealed by the specific planets and aspect involved. In spite of what some books will tell you, the so-called ‘hard’ aspects bring the greatest rewards and describe our greatest successes – IF we recognise the invitation and accept the challenge. In this new seminar, join Frank to explore the nature of the ‘hard’ aspects (from the opposition to the square to the sesquiquadrate) and see how these can be best used in your life, work and relationship patterns. Bring your charts!
Workshop:
Behind the Steering Wheel: Your Chart Ruler
Your Ascendant is a vehicle that showcases a general attitude or outlook – one that you adopt to negotiate and interact with the world around you. It’s your open agenda and personality (i.e. your personal reality). But each Ascendant has a ruler with twelve possible sign placements (and aspects to that ruler). The Chart Ruler reveals the motivation or hidden directive behind the Ascendant – it is you as the driver of the vehicle and the route you wish to take. Join Frank to explore examples of the Chart Ruler from his files and from the group.

Gimme Shelter: Weathering the Storm in an Archetypal Cosmos
Sunday, April 28, 2019 2 – 5 pm
Sylvan Community Center
7521 Community Drive, Citrus Heights
The evidence of consistent correlations between planetary alignments and world events, as seen through the lens of astrology, can provide us with a much needed context for our wildly dramatic time. Understanding the cyclical patterns and historical trends that preceded this moment can help us engage with greater consciousness and skillful intelligence the powerful forces now active in the world. In this sense, astrology can be seen as a kind of cosmic extension of the depth psychology project initiated by Freud and Jung over a century ago: helping us become more conscious of the unconscious, less like puppets and more like co-creative participants in relation to the archetypal powers within and around us.
What is the current planetary situation, and which gods are now in dynamic motion? And how might our contemporary culture be transformed by the recognition that an intimate bond exists between the deep psyche and the cosmos? Join Richard Tarnas this afternoon for a discussion of the cosmological implications of astrology, and a “state of the world report” on the archetypal context of our national and global moment.
Richard Tarnas, Ph.D., is the founding director of the graduate program in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies. He teaches courses in the history of ideas, archetypal studies, depth psychology, and religious evolution. He frequently lectures on archetypal studies and depth psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, and was formerly the director of programs and education at Esalen Institute in Big Sur. He is the author of The Passion of the Western Mind, a history of the Western world view from the ancient Greek to the postmodern widely used in universities. His second book, Cosmos and Psyche: Intimations of a New World View, received the Book of the Year Prize from the Scientific and Medical Network, and is the basis for the upcoming documentary film Changing of the Gods. He is a past president of the International Transpersonal Association and served on the Board of Governors for the C. G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. His website is CosmosandPsyche.com(more…)
A "not to be missed" event with outstanding Evolutionary astrologer Maurice Fernandez is coming up in June! We are fortunate to once again have the wisdom and depth we always enjoy from Maurice's lectures and presentations. This presentation will focus on how each planet in our chart offers both risk and opportunity in our lives, and how we can grow from the experience of our trials. For example, though Pluto is associated with abandonment, we can use that to build trust; or with Uranus events we often feel fractured, and yet we can mend and re-engage with life. Maurice will help us to indentify our particular vulnerabilities and also our own remedies. How wonderful and useful is that?!Maurice is the founder of I-Astrologer and the River of Stars conferences. He is a recipient of the Orion Award for outstanding contribution to astrology, and also received an ISAR Community Service Award. He served three terms as president of the OPA organization. He has written and published four books, plus one translation in Spanish. Please join us for this exciting webinar. You can register to attend, and also receive a recording of it if you cannot attend that day. See our website to register and pay, $20 for NCGR members, and $30 for nonmembers. Thank you so much! ...
