Winter Solstice Celebration and Short Meeting
Sacramento Area Astrologers continue to constellate at light speed! At our second meeting on Nov. 21, 2010, we decided to become a chapter of the National Council on Geocosmic Research (NCGR). This will keep the new board members busy in early 2011. Serving as the leadership team are:
Joyce Mason …………. President (and some Marketing)
Linda Byrd ………………………………. Vice-President
Barbara Ybarra ………….……………………. Treasurer
Larry Landis ………………… Back-Up/Co-Treasurer #1
Betty O’Hara ……………………..Back-Up Treasurer #2
Wayne Moody ………………………………… Secretary
Sara Fisk ……………………Graphics and Blog Design
Chris Taylor ……………………………………………… Marketing, Blog Manager
To fund our activities, starting at the December meeting, dues of $5 per meeting will be collected. This is above and beyond the $55 annual fee for NCGR membership. Joining NCGR is optional. Our meetings will remain open to the public, but a higher meeting and special event fees will be charged to non-members in 2011.
We approved three speakers for 2011, starting with Linea Van Horn’s presentation on The Galactic Embrace, scheduled for January 9. Alison Chester-Lambert will visit us in May from the UK to discuss the dwarf planets such as Sedna. Another UK astrologer, Sue Tompkins, will present in September. Our members will decide which of her many topics of interest we’ll request for her visit to Sacramento.
All are welcome to attend the Winter Solstice short meeting and celebration, even if it’s your first time at SAA. This is a “getting to know you” meeting above all. We’ve been too busy getting organized to mingle much, so come share appetizers and discover your local star tribe at our next meeting:

Besides our fantastic October 17 kick-off meeting, much has gone on behind the scenes in past weeks, adding ingredients to keep this group on the fast track toward gelling. The Taurus Full Moon is a perfect time to get down to earth on nitty-gritty questions like how we finance our operations, who will be in charge in the year to come, our organizational structure and whether or not we affiliate with the National Council on Geocosmic Research (NCGR). We already have offers from two top astrologers from California and England to present programs in 2011, as early as January.
It’s not all work and no play, which would make us dull astrologers. We’ll be brainstorming names for our new “baby” astrology association and planning the December Winter Solstice party.
If it appeals to you to be in on the ground floor of a group of eager, enthusiastic and knowledge-hungry star people, join us at our next meeting. Contact Joyce for more information.

Like a shooting star, the collective enthusiasm of over 20 local astrologers and astrology students launched Sacramento Area Astrologers (SAA) on Oct. 17. SAA’s first meeting at Planet Earth Rising in Folsom was facilitated by Joyce Mason, who jokingly calls herself the CEO (Catalyst, Enthusiast, and Organizer). The creation of this group of amazing astro-colleagues went from idea to reality in less than a month.
“I just answered a tap on the shoulder from Spirit,” she said. The meeting minutes are available for those who join the SAA e-mail list.
Joyce said later about the first meeting, “The desire for astrological community has been strong and underground for years since Cheshire Rose Books in Fair Oaks closed in the early 2000s and with it, our local chapter of the National Council of Geocosmic Research (NCGR). Anything that has been underground surfaces stronger and more ready for action.”
And here we are. One thing agreed upon at the meeting was to start this blog and create a hub concept, a central location where information can be accessed about astrology classes, events, and meetings in the greater Sacramento region.
If you have an astrological event, please contact Joyce (info in sidebar) to be included in this blog.
One of the ironies was that the first meeting of SAA coincided with the 43rd anniversary of the opening of the musical Hair: The American Tribal Love Rock Musical. Hair made astrology and “the dawning of the Age of Aquarius” household words. See The Chart of Hair – Why We Should Care for more on how Hair relates to our times and tribe.
Meanwhile, if what we’re doing sounds exciting to you, please join our mailing list and come to a meeting!
