In honor of Hermes (aka Mercury) and his ingress into the Virgin (aka Virgo) we present a fresh investigation into two disparate facets of the astrological system, the first being the quincunx/inconjunct aspect and the second being the Lots (aka Parts) of Fortune and Spirit.
The Quincunx and Inconjunct Aspects: What to Do When You Can’t Get the Job Done by Yourself!
All of the major aspects in your horoscope ideally find resolution through give-and-take, negotiation and the recognition and appreciation of common ground – sextiles share a common gender, squares share modalities, trines partake of the same element and oppositions share gender and modalities. But what do you do when you encounter the quincunx and its sibling the inconjunct in your chart? These minor major or major minor (with apologies to Catch-22!) aspects share absolutely nothing in common! How do you find common ground where there is no common ground? This talk explores the history and original perception of the modern quincunx/inconjunct aspect, which reveals the resolution (coming from an unexpected corner of astrology) to this vexing paradox!
The Lots of Fortune and Spirit: 10 Things You Should Know About These Ancient Metaphysical Points in the Horoscope
This talk gives an overview of the astrological Lots of Fortune and Spirit, perhaps in the first case more familiarly known as the Part of Fortune. What are these points anyway? What do they mean? As ancient points, do they have any relevance to the modern world? And if so, how can they be interpreted and used in modern astrological interpretation? We’ll answer these questions and more, with the goal of deepening your understanding and forever changing your perception of these essential, fundamental features of the horoscope.

Douglas Noblehorse has been studying and practicing astrology for over 45 years. Initially finding inspiration in Rudhyar’s Humanistic astrology that was popularized during the 70s and 80s, he began a study of ancient Hellenistic astrology in 2006 – and was delighted to find unmistakable connections to modern astrology! Originally from Washington State and currently living in Phoenix, Arizona he gives readings, lectures for organizations and at conferences (i.e. UAC 2012), teaches classes, and writes on various aspects of Astrology. It is extremely important, especially when looking at personal charts in a group, that we create an atmosphere of safety and non-judgment in helping others learn more about their astrological map. Another key concept is that the owner of the chart is the ultimate authority on what resonates to him or her. These concepts will “go without saying” for many of us, but we’re a group open to the public and individuals vary in their sensitivity to these issues. About Chart Interpretation Meetings: Mastery of chart reading skills is where the rubber hits the road, transferring theory to practice in astrology. The Leadership Team feels this type of meeting serves many purposes:

We are all here to develop greater awareness about ourselves and the world.
Eric will introduce a spiritual approach to the Sun and Moon, seeing them in terms of awakening from unconsciousness. He will illustrate that there is a personal level in understanding them, but also a transpersonal one. Then, we’ll explore how the major planets function differently depending on the consciousness we bring to them. Every planet can be in service to the ego or the soul. Are we going to use astrology to cooperate with nature, or only to see to our self-interests?

Eric Meyers has an M.A. in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology (Naropa University in Boulder, CO), and is a graduate of the Steven Forrest Apprenticeship program. With a focus on spiritual awakening, he is forging a career as a unique voice for evolutionary growth. Eric released his latest book, The Astrology of Awakening, in 2012. When astrologers want to prove that astrology works to non-astrologers, it is common practice to have them watch personal and global events during the next Mercury Retrograde cycle. This is an effective real life demonstration, but it can have a negative result. “Oh no, not another Mercury Retrograde!” is a common reaction. But there is so much more to Mercury than your car or computer giving you anxiety attacks.
Join us to learn about taking advantage of Mercury retrograde. We shall look at shadow periods, connections between the three retrograde each year, its effect on individual & business natal charts, and much more. Because Mark never passes up a chance to bring esoteric astrology into his talks, we shall also look at the higher, spiritual vibration of Mercury and this year’s retrograde cycles. Open House in March, after a few Mercury retrograde sputters the day before, was as awesome as expected, and we had a great turnout! We had tarot readers, astro-dice readers, and chart readers, and, as you can see, lots of snacks!
The Open House is free admission to all at the beautiful Cooperative Extension at 4145 Branch Center Rd. in Sacramento, Ca. There will be book sales, readings, and a fun and basic workshop for all (bring your chart if you have it). See our webpage for any other details.
